Deneia is one of the 4 villages of Cyprus that are completely in the dead zone after the Turkish invasion in Cyprus in 1974. At a short distance from the village there is the prehistoric settlement of Deneia, where the carved tombs of the cemetery contributed to the rapid growth rodent population. These rodents afflicted the community in agricultural and livestock work as well as being a source of infection and disease. Now the community is using a biological way to fight rodents.
