On the islands of Dominica and Guadeloupe vulcanism is a great danger and has many faces: boiling lakes, toxic sulfur eruptions, bubbling flat underwater volcanoes like the famous Champagne Reef and black smokers in the deep sea. The titanic forces from the earth's heart are so fast, they also open up new niches. In this way, an animal and plant world could emerge which is untypical for the Caribbean, both above and below water.
